Bohemian UNESCO heritage from Telc to Kutna hora

Day 1

Day 2

Telc - Slavonice -Telc

60 km / 36  miles

The first day on a bike you start at CT 16 heading for a small town called Dačice. The origin of this city dates back to the 12th century. The main landmark of Dačicee is a renaissance castle founded in 1591. Its reconstruction took place in the years 1990 - 1996 and now it looks charmingly again. Very lovely is also its park. An interesting feature is that the first sugar cube in the world was made right in Dačice. There is also the Cube´s monument located in front of the Renaissance Tower, which is a part of the church of St. Lawrence. Along CT 16 path you will further get to a small town of Slavonice. Undoubtedly you will be delighted with such an architectural jewel situated on the border between Bohemia, Moravia and Austria. Especially two squares in the heart of this town with its beautiful houses will not let your cameras off. Back to Telč you will be returning along CT marked by us.

The territory that you are going to ride through today, is a one part of the Czech Canada. This landscape with widespread woods, numerous ponds and lakes offers many options for cycling. In Telč you probably already yesterday visited the historic centre, but if you like to see the town from above, ride to the train station (near the town centre) from where you can come along the yellow tourist trail to a viewing tower "Oslednice". And then you can fully enjoy view at this picturesque city and its surroundings.

Day 3

Telc - Jihlava

30 km / 18 miles

Probably the first stop of today's stage will be for you Castle Roštejn. The castle was built in the 14th century and is located 677 meters above sea level. It was burned down in 1915 and after various repairs was opened for public again in year 1982. Next to the Roštejn Castle is nature reservation "Roštejnská obora (Deer-park of the Roštejn)“. It was founded in the 16th century and covers an area of 127 hectares. Situated in a beautiful woods has become home to many species of animals. The next stop could be the small town of Třešť. The repaired square has an unusual sundial tower clock. For its height of 8,21 meters, it is the largest one in the Czech Republic. At the main railway station is located an exhibition of models. It contains 750 models of ships and airplanes. Simply a splendour. Keys can be picked at the ticket desk of the train station. Do not forget about a castle, now used as a hotel. Also worth visiting is a near-by English garden. Passing next 17 km you will arrive to the town of Jihlava, a capital of Vysočina Region. About 10 minutes from the city centre, in park surroundings is located a beautiful ZOO with more than 200 exotic animals to be seen. If you need to cool a bit, it is possible to do so in the Jihlava´s aquacentrum. A local underground has also cooling temperature, however it is a significant historical monument. The length of corridors under the historical centre reaches 25 km and covers an area of 50,000 square meters. The corridors are located 11 meters below the surface. An entrance is located in the town library, str. Hluboká 1.

Day 4

Jihlava - Pribyslav

26 km / 15 miles

Continue along the CT16, cross the bridge over the highway D1 and pass a small town of Polná ( there's a castle, several churches, Jewish cemetery and often visited by tourists - old school ) until you will get to your hotel in Přibyslav. Its history dates back to the 13th century. In 1767, it was nearly all burned down. Today, however, has a decent sporting, cultural and social life. It is also the centre of agriculture and dairy industry. A local significant feature that cannot be overlooked is a castle from 1560. The building now houses a fire museum.

Day 5

Pribyslav - Sec (lake)

42 km / 25 Miles 

Along the CT 4122 you will reach the burial mound of the important leader Jan Zizka, who died there in 1424. And then following the CT marked by us you will arrive in the town called Chotěboř. It lies at a height of 515m above sea level and surrounding landscape is characterized by a clean environment suitable for tourism and recreation. Visit a local 17th century castle. Enchanting are particularly weapons and a picture gallery. Then along river Doubrava and a protected landscape area of the „ Železné hory (Iron Mountains)“ you will reach the Sec Dam. This is all for today. Water forms a 7 km long lake. You can rent a boat or just have a swim there. Above the dam there is a castle ruin Oheb. This point offers wonderful view over the whole water area and over a heart shaped island. There is need for caution as probably it is not of your desire to roll down from such height into the water.

Day 6

Sec (lake) - Kutna hora

38 km / 23 miles

Following CT1 from the Seč Dam you will arrive to a village Žleby. Perhaps it won´t be a local pastry-shop to attract you in the first place there, but a castle Žleby with its unique atmosphere and charming ambience. Try to ascent on a great tower and this place will give you opportunity to admire a beautiful view to the castle gardens and the surrounding area. The castle Žleby was a shooting area for many films and fairy tales for children, thus having a little luck, you will witness a shooting. From Žleby it is close to the town of Kutná Hora. Just pass a few villages, and you are there.

Kutna Hora celebrates 21 anniversary of enrolment on the list of UNESCO Heritage Sites this year. Today and tomorrow you could get acquainted with this irresistible city. You can find there one of the most remarkable work of architecture in the world - the Church of St. Barbara. Other attractions are: the Jesuit College, The Italian Court ( Vlašský dvůr), the Museum of silver, a world´s unique ossuary (kostnice) - 2 km from the town centre, and much more is waiting for you in Kutná Hora. Even staying there for a month there is always something new from the historic past to discover. And what about some sport? The second longest toboggan run in Europe (1600 meters), and a nice view of the city, this is the real adrenaline experience.
