Czech castles around Prague

Day 1

Transfer Prague - Krivoklat castle   60 km / 36 miles / 55 minutes

When you visit Krivoklat you should definitely visit the castle. It is one of the oldest and most important castles in Bohemia. Its origins date back to the 12th century. Beautiful castle chapel, library containing over 52,000 volumes, museum and art gallery, the notorious prison and torture chambers complete with torture instruments, a large tower with hunting collections and view of the surroundings, all this and much more is in Křivoklát castle. It is also a national monument. When you have time and when you are in the mood you can visit a theater or concert. In the summer these events take place all the time.

 

Day 2

Krivoklat castle Karlstejn castle

45 km / 27  miles

Today's first stop would be Hamousův farmhouse in the village Zbečno. It is located about 7 km from the castle Křivoklát. This is an important monument of folk architecture.

You should also stop in the village Nižbor. There is a glass factory (today Ruckl Crystal), which was founded in 1903.It soon became well-known around Europe. Currently, the plant produces lead crystal. The main part of the production is exported. The glassworks is also open for the public. You can learn something about the production of cut and blown glass and you can also buy something here. Above the river Berounka there is a local castle. It is being restored as we speak. In repaired areas there is an infocentrum  of Celtic culture, which offers a unique exhibition. From Nižbor you will go around the river Berounka into the city Beroun.. Please pay attention to the increased traffics . After passing through this town you pass under the highway D5 and go constantly around the river Berounka.  You will come to Karlstejn. There are high cliffs here and you also have a chance to see some caves. So welcome to the land of wine, hiking and canoeing.

Day 3

Karlstejn castle - Dobris castle

30 km / 18  miles

The second half of today's route leads through the forest without car traffic . But before you sit on the bike, I'm sure you visit the castle Karlstejn .This gothic castle was founded in 1348 by Czech king Charles IV and is really unique . Trained guides are happy to provide you with any information on the three tour routes . It's up to you which one you choose. After passing through several villages you will get to to the forest on CT 308 and after about 13 km of  riding you will arrive in the town Dobříš. Today's stage is quite short, so you should have time  to visit the castle Dobříš . In July and August you can also choose a night tour . The current form of the rococo castle comes from years 1745 - 1765. The distinctive facade attracts every visitor . You will also enjoy the walk through the English and French park.

Day 4

 Dobris castle Konopiste castle

46 km / 28 miles

 After a while you  will get again to CT308. On the path which runs between forests and several ponds you will get to the road 114. And after less than 2 km you are crossing Živohošťsky bridge. On both sides can stop and watch the beautiful valley and the river Vltava. The depth here is about 40 m, so jump into the water would probably not be the best idea. Then through the village Neveklov, and alongside a very busy little road you will get to Konopiste. Konopiste is a castle which was built in the 13th century and it was held by many influential aristocratic families throughout its existence. It was gradually transformed into a castle. It was bought in 1887 by Franz Ferdinand d'Este, who gave it a full rebuild. To this day it remain in its original form. Among the most attractive collections is the collection of weapons and hunting trophies. Konopiště has more than 100 year tradition of  breeding bears. Around the castle you can currently see just one bear. His name is George, and this is a very rare species - the Asian black bear. It is up to you when you visit the castle, I'm sure you will like it here.

Day 5

Konopiste castle - Jemniste castle

24 km / 14  miles

From Konopiste you go around konopišťský ponds and we label you a path to the castle Jemniste. Sometimes it is also called baroque pearl of Central Bohemia. You have an ideal opportunity to see a typical aristocratic seat of High Baroque. After you visit the castle you should not forget about the English park and the local renowned restaurant . You can taste a stunning desert in Custosa café while watching  the decoration that reminds year 1848th
